Bush throws a bone to the racist reactionary xenophobes. Mexico is Public Enemy No. 1.
From Yahoo News: "Bush, in a speech to the nation Monday, will propose using the troops as a stopgap measure while the Border Patrol builds up its resources to more effectively secure the 2,000-mile line between the U.S. and Mexico, said two White House officials speaking on a condition of anonymity before the president is scheduled to speak at 8 p.m. EDT...Bush also will mention the need for immigrants to learn English and assimilate into American culture if they are to become citizens."
Apparently, Fox is supposed to feel good 'cause the troops are not real military.

The Moshe Dayan-style vigilante border patrols only constitute one amongst several hastily designed populist measures adopted by Bush under pressure from a disenchanted political base.
Far more important are the recent warnings coming from influential conservative Christian circles that they will withhold their support in the midterm elections unless Congress does more to oppose same-sex marriage, obscenity and abortion…
To keep up with the matrimonial cum reproductive topics at hand, I hope this means the beginning of a divorce between the two strange bedfellows of the Bush regime:
The Henry Ford/values-oriented “Christian” wing of the regime and the Israel Uber Alles “secular” thugs in the Pentagon and the Office of the Vice-President.

No problema. The most frequent saying and guide for life here in Mexico is "Ni modo". It can mean many things depending on context. Some are "What the hell else would you expect?", "Who cares, nothing will change", and "Laws of the rich and their whoring minions never bothered us before, why should they now". It might serve in this very particular context as "Keep on crossin'".
The funniest thing in news on the topic spilling from the land of code words invented to keep from publically admitting racist bigoty is the merging of two words to one, illegalaliens. "Aliens" (wierd creatures from outer space that look like giant grasshoppers and eat babies without sauce), and its hypocritical join, "Illegal" (when was the last time a US bigot drove without engaging in the very dangerous practice of exeeding a speed limit, something that kills many more than than brown skinned workers speaking the funny language that was there before the pink illegalalians from England arrived).

Rarely in the history of mankind has a small underdeveloped nation exerted such a decisive influence on a great empire: in that, Israel is truly an unholy “beacon unto the nation[s]” and its poisonous flames are ravaging both the White House and Congress…
And that’s to curb immigrants coming through just one border. Imagine what they would have done if they had to deal with the dozens of boarders the Europeans have. Probably would’ve invaded North Africa as a “protective measure”.

As The Limey on my Great Summer 2006 Tour I keep reminding folks that the US has changed little since we gave it away and the great Democrat Jefforson bought the remaining bits.
George II rules because his Dad George I ruled.
Now the North are up in arms about low paid wage slaves who do the estate work / cleaning / construction , hamburger juggling just as they were when real slaves did the estate work, / cleaning that nobody else wanted to do.
Ultra liberal Feinstein wants to give the wetbacks a free ride - i.e. free the slaves. Neo cons want to (re) build Fortress America. At least it will give the farm boys and the hoodies folks to shoot and kill when they get back from Iraq.
