I am content
If I must die,
For time well spent
Is not to lie.

So many would
Prefer to live
Deceitful--should
I too deceive?

No, I will say
With careless mouth
North lies which way
And which way south:

Most preciously
Concerning war,
This one I see
Wrong at the core.

Nor strangers, friends,
Nor foes among
My heart pretends
Nor held my tongue.

Why ought a man
Admit the false?
How fly soul an
Uncouth that crawls?

Before my God
Or Godless so
My path be trod:
He and I know.
