There is a grisly story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (inventor of Sherlock Holmes) called the "Leather Funnel". A collector of curios explains to a visitor the uses of the leather funnel in flooding lungs of the tormented by the Inquisitors.
"See" he says chillingly, " you can see the teeth marks made on the funnel". Is the final sentence.
When first I read it at the age of about 14 I didn't sleep easily for weeks.
