February 5 Events in Iraq

20:11 Ramadi: Bloody Saturday. US troops engaged insurgents, killing Lteif Rishaui, chief of the Abu Risha clan.

18:41 Baghdad. Ten police executed in video. Ansar Al Sunna records video of execution of 10 members of the Iraqi security forces.

17:11 Baghdad. Seven National Guards executed in Ansar Al Sunna video. The guards were captured in a rebel ambush near Abu Ghraib.

15:52 Baghdad, explosion in Green Zone.

15:51 Baghad. Committee of Iraqi Ulema plead for release of Italian correspondent Giuliana Sgrena.

14:33 Doha. Al Jazeera assures Manifesto: "We will broadcast video." Al Jazeera spokesman Ahmad Al-Sheikh says the network will air video plea for the release of Manifesto reporter Giuliana Sgrena produced by the newpaper.

13:39 Samarra, at least three dead. At least three Iraqis were killed in Samarra following clashes between Iraqi forces and rebels. A government soldier and one civilian were killed in separate incidents in Samarra. Near Dhoulouiya, a second government soldier died in combat, in which four civilians were wounded. Earlier in the day two children were killed by an anti-personnel mine; two Iraqi soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb.

13:18 Baghdad. Committee of Iraqi Ulema sets condition for participation in drafting Constitution. Committee of Iraqi Ulema insists on departure of foreign forces as a prerequisite for participating in drafting of Iraqi Constitution.

12:51 Paris. French newspaper mobilizes. The French daily La Liberation will mobilize its staff and readers to work for the release of its Baghdad correspondent Florence Aubenas.

12:50 Baghdad. City councilman assassinated. Baghdad city councilman Abbas Wassen Wahid was assassinted in front of his home.

12:15 Mosul. Christian Democrat Party Secretary kidnapped. The General Secretary of the Iraqi Christian Democrats, Minas Ibrahim al-Yussufi, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen along the Baghdad-Mosul highway.

11:14 Kuwait City. Kuwait promises help in releasing Italian journalist. Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Alfredo Mantica met this morning with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister al Sabah and Parliamentary President al Khorafi to ask for assistance in obtaining the release of kidnapped Italian reporter.

11:09 Abu Ghraib. Four bodies discovered. The bodies of four Iraqi police were found near the site of a convoy abush in which two police were killed, four wounded and another 36 went missing.

10:41 Balad. Man and woman killed by bomb. A man and a woman travelling in a car between Ishaki and Balad were killed by a roadside bomb.

10:33 Samarra. Four dead, including two children. Two children were killed by an anti-personnel mine while playing in the street. Two Iraqi soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb.

08:13 Basrah. Motorcycle bomb kills four Iraqi soldiers.

08:11 Baghdad. Two US soldiers killed north of capital. Two US soldiers were killed and five others wounded by a roadside bomb near Baiji, 200 km north of Baghdad.

08:11 Ft. Hood. Sergeant sentenced to six months in jail. Sergeant Javal Davis,was sentenced to six months in prison and given a dishonorable discharge in Fort Hood, Texas for his role in the Abu Ghraib torture scandal.
