Ulster: Another Bush Peace Effort in Flames

Orange Order riots in Belfast.

November 27, 2004: President Bush interrupted his Thanksgiving holiday to speak by telephone to the Rev Ian Paisley, the Democratic Unionist Party leader...at the request of Tony Blair. Mr. Bush expressed hope yesterday that his surprise intervention in the Northern Ireland peace process could help....

September 11, 2005: Northern Ireland secretary Peter Hain challenged loyalists this morning to decide if they wanted to become known as police killers. "This is really not loyalism but 'gangsterism'...".

Nur - don't let your disdain for the Bush administration's policies colour your attitude to those occasions where they actually do the right thing. Under heavy pressure from the British and Irish governments and the peace movement in NI Bush put severe pressure on Paisley to rein his followers in.

Much of what you're seeing now is driven by the fact that as he nears death his grip is faltering.

He wishes - watch for some very vicious infighting between him and Robinson in the near future. My money's on Robinson.

1. Paisley's grip is not faltering.
2. Note that Robinson is ALWAYS in the background hovering when Paisley appears in public, Pailsey Jnr hasn't a chance with that jackal ready to swoop.
3. I remember Paisley at the time he was interviewed about (I think by BBC) about POTUS's phone call was extraordinarily dismissive of POTUS's efforts to the point of rudeness. I do remember some remarks about NORAID escaped his child molester's dewy lips.
4. Hain is a complete shit. faux socialite more than socialist whose ambition is marked in every step. Just another in a lengthy line of wannabe peace makers who toil under the delusion that a nation educated from birth under areligious divide can unite - and determined not to see the seamy underside of gangsterism that controls everything in the Province.

... but remember this is NOT terrorism ..that's what Muslislamofascists do - arriving on trains that don't exist with bombs that have no timers, using military or home made explosives, mad fundamentalists who are married to Hindus, have children, spend £900 on expensive perfume, drive red Mercedes, and catch a burger before achieving paradise.

Yes, I found his none to subtle misunderstatement "I reminded the President of the fact that he would not have terrorists in his government, and that we must be satisfied that IRA terrorism is over and cannot return," is what he was reported to have said after the phone call that POTUS made about Thanksgiving time – just about the time Gerry Adams and Co. must have been planning the biggest bank robbery of all time at the NI Bank. (£26 Mn in folding money, say $40Mn)

Later when Adams was frozen out by Bush at the time of St Pats day 2004 , Mitchell Reiss, the US envoy for Northern Ireland was quoted in the Daily Torygraph "It's hard to understand how a European country in the year 2005 can have a private army associated with a political party,"

By the way, that was the Thanksgiving AFTER the time POTUS tripped off to Baghdad to see the troops and was smuggled out of his Crawford compound with Condoleeza Rice (spelling OK ?) under a blanket - and there was all the confusion that Dubya said it was at night, but dawn must have been delayed by Congress for 10 hours etc., and in all the brouhaha Condi never appeared in any pics even the one with two turkeys, an unnamed, unknown, unsliced one and the POTUS.

Never misunderestimate Mr 3 paid public jobs Paisley Snr.(MP, MEP, NIMP)

Condoleeza Rice (spelling OK ?)

Double "e", double "z", please. Got zzzat? And thanks for the interesting comments. Paisley holds a Bob Jones Uni honorary degree. One of Dubya's faith-based favorites!
