19.50 Baghdad. BEHEADING ON INTERNET, FOUR-MINUTE VIDEO. A four-minute video uploaded to an Islamic web site shows a Westerner surrounded by armed and masked men. The victim is holding a sign sayng "CIA Agent". There is no confirmation of its authenticity.
19.48 Baghdad. WEB SITE CLAIMS TO HAVE IMAGES OF DECAPITATED CIA AGENT.
19.45 An Najaf. SHI'ITE MILITIA: "WE WILL BOMB THE OIL PIPELINES IF YOU ATTACK NAJAF." Moqtada-al Sadr's militia threatens to blow up the oil pipelines in southern Iraq if the US launches a final assault on Najaf.
18.15 Al Fallūjah. TWO KILLED AND FOUR WOUNDED IN US STRIKE. Two Iraqis were killed and four others wounded in a US airstrike on Fallujah.
18.05 Baghdad. JORDANIAN HOSTAGE FREED. Taha al-Maharmeh, kidnapped Saturday, has been released and has spoken with his family.
17.50 Baghdad. FOUR IRANIAN NEWSMEN ARRESTED. The IRNA journalist and three office workers thought kidnapped on Monday afternoon have been arrested by Iraqi police.
17.20 Baghdad. DNA CONFIRMS IDENTITY OF BEHEADED BULGARIAN. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry confirmes the identify of a decapitated corpse found in the Tigris on 22 July as that of Ivailo Kepov (32), a truck driver kidnapped in Iraq on June 27 by Tawhid and Jihad.
17.10 Baghdad. CHALABI BACK IN BAGHDAD TO ANSWER CHARGES. Ahmed Chalabi has returned to Baghdad to answer charger of counterfeiting says Iraqi National Congress party spokesman.
17.00 Teheran. IRANIAN JOURNALISTS ARRESTED, NOT KIDNAPPED. The Iranian press agency Irna says its reporters were arrested, not kidnapped.
16.35 Teheran. IRNA, ONLY ONE JOURNALIST MISSING. Teheran Radio had reported that several Iranian journalists were kidnapped but the IRNA press agency says only one journalist is missing: Mostafa Darban on assignment in Iraq since 27 May.
16.30 Teheran. TV TEHERAN, IRANIAN JOURNALISTS ABDUCTED. Iranian journalists have been kidnapped in Iraq.
16.20 Baghdad. AL MASRI BRIGADES, LAST WARNING FOR ITALY. A last warning to the Italian people: get rid of that incompetent Berlusconi or we will set all of Italy aflame was posted at the Islamic website Hostinganine run by the Abu Hafs Al Masri Brigades.
16.10 Teheran. KHAMENEI, ISLAM WILL NOT FORGIVE USA FOR NAJAF. The supreme jurisprudent Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has unleashed a violent attack on the USA affirming that Muslims the world over will not forgive the "atrocity" committed by US forces against Najaf.
15.20 An Nāşirīyah. THOUSANDS DEMONSTRATE IN NASSIRIYA AGAINST PREMIER ALLAWI. Thousands of Iraqis took to the streets yesterday in Nassiriya to protest Allawi. A handful of demonstrators attacked Alawi's party offices and attempted to set fire to them. "Allawi is a coward, Allawi is a tool of the Americans", were shouted by the crowd.
14.40 An Najaf. US MILITARY SAYS IT IS IN NAJAF TO PROTECT THE POPULACE. An American military communiqué reads that The Marines, the Iraqi National Guard, two battalions of infantry reinforcements and an air squadron continue training in view of meeting the enemy with full force in Najaf. The final outcome is "stability and security" freeing the people of Najaf from violence and kidnappings and returning them "to peace and prosperity", says the document.
14.00 An Najaf. US TROOPS PREPARE FINAL ASSAULT ON NAJAF. Col. Anthony M. Haslam says US troops prepare for final assault on Najaf.
13.05 Baghdad. TAREQ AZIZ ACCUSED OF MASS SLAUGHTER. Tareq Aziz, ex Vice President, has written a letter to his family saying that the Special Tribunal has accused him of mass killings for which the death penalty will be asked, says his son, Ziad Aziz, in Amman, Jordan.
12.55 CHALABI PARTY SPOKESMEN: WE WILL NOT LEAVE. Spokesmen for the Iraqi National Congress, the party founded by Ahmed Chalabi, have announced that they will disobey the order to pack up and leave their Baghdad offices. Yesterday afternoon a US soldier delivered the injunction ordering both the Mosul and Baghdad offices to close down "within 24 hours."
12.50 An Nāşirīyah. NIGHTTIME ATTACK ON ITALIAN TROOPS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. Capt. Ettore Sarli, spokesman for the Italian contingent in Iraq, says last night's attack was an isolated incident and caused no damage.
12.45 An Najaf. SADR THANKS HIS FOLLOWERS. Moqtada Al Sadr exhorted his followers to continue the struggle in a leaflet distributed in Iraq. I thank my dear militiamen--my dear combattants of the Mahdi Army in Basrah, Al Amāra and An Nāşirīyah who have offered up their lives and their blood in the struggle against the forces of occupation.
12.20 Al Kūt. GUERRILLAS BESIEGE GOVERNOR'S OFFICES. Two Iraqi national guardsmen and three police officers were wounded in Al Kūt in clashes with Moqtada al-Sadr's militiamen as the governor's offices are beseiged.
11.20 Rome. THREATS ON WEB DIRECTED AT BERLUSCONI. The most recent of a series of threatening messages directed at Silvio Berlusconi at the website Islamic Minbar is dated 10 August and is signed by the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Brigades - "The Information Section of Al Qaeda in Europe". "Berlusconi, we have you in our hands- and we will slit your throat like a sheep.".
10.50 Al Amāra. TWENTY DEAD AND SCORES WOUNDED. Twenty people are dead and 50 wounded during nighttime combat in Al Amāra(southern Iraq), where British troops bombed positions held by Moqtada Sadr's militia.
10.15 An Najaf. SADR, 'I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT'. Moqtada Sadr has exhorted his followers in Najaf to continue fighting the Americans, even if he himself is killed. Continue the struggle even if I may be taken prisoner or killed.
09.45 Baghdad. BOMB KILLS SIX IRAQIS NORTH OF BAGHDAD. At least six Iraqis are killed and ten wounded in the explosion of a marketplace bomb in Khān Banī Saad, 40 km northeast of Baghdad.
09.40 Baghdad. GOVERNMENT ACCUSES SHI'ITES, YOU KILLED 14 PEOPLE IN BAGHDAD. The Iraqi caretaker government has accused Moqtada Sadr's militia of having killed 14 people and wounded another 67 in mortar rounds launched from Sadr City in the last few days.
09.25 Baghdad. SHI'ITE LEADER ASSASSINATED NEAR BAGHDAD. A leader of the moderate Shi'ite group Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq has been assassinated.
08.40 Baghdad. 30 DEAD AND 219 WOUNDED IN LAST 24 HOURS. Iraqi Ministry of Health says at least thirty are dead and 219 wounded in the last 24 hours of clashes between US troops and Shi'ite militias.
08.20 Baghdad. IRAQI VICE PRESIDENT DEMANDS FOREIGN TROOPS QUIT NAJAF. Vice President Ibrahim Jafari has demanded that all foreign troops leave Najaf in an interview with Al Jazeera. Our forces are very capable of handling the situation in Najaf, and to end violence in that city which is sacred to all Muslims.
8.00 An Nāşirīyah. ITALIAN CARABINIERI ATTACKED. An Italian Multinational Specialized Unit composed of 4 armored vehicles and 2 police cruisers was attacked with RPG and machine gun fire as it patrolled a zone south of An Nāşirīyah. No damage or injuries reported.
07.45 Basrah. PIPELINE CLOSURE, OIL EXPORTS HALVED. Monday's shutdow of a pipeline in southern Iraq due to threats from insurgents caused a 50 per cent reduction in oil exports and caused the state $30 million in lost revenue.
07.30 Baghdad. ANOTHER JORDANIAN KIDNAPPED. A Jordanian citizen, the second in 24 hours, was kidnapped today in Iraq.
